- server was down for a couple of days due to a hardware failure (a fan died) which occurred while I was away for the weekend. [January 28th 2007]
- Happy New Year! Bit late, but what the hey. [January 9th 2007]
- upgraded to PHP 5.2.0. [November 5th 2006]
- upgraded to MySQL 5.0.27. The reason I haven't updated it sooner was that I got confused about the branch I was using. [November 2nd 2006]
- upgraded to PHP 5.1.6. First time I do that twice in a day. [August 24th 2006]
- upgraded to PHP 5.1.5. [August 24th 2006]
- upgraded to Apache 2.0.59. [July 28th 2006]
- back up again after two days of downtime caused by a failure on a router. [June 13th 2006]
- upgraded to MySQL 5.0.22. [May 31st 2006]
- upgraded to Apache 2.0.58. Couldn't get my 2.2.2 build to execute, and I would've had to build my own PHP if I ever had gotten it to work, so I'll stay on what's supported for now. [May 8th 2006]
- upgraded to PHP 5.1.4. Yay for broken form handling (how did that one pass the test cases?)! [May 6th 2006]
- upgraded to PHP 5.1.3. Apache 2.2.2 will be deployed whenever I have time to fix my compiler... [May 2nd 2006]
- upgraded to MySQL 5.0.21. [May 2nd 2006]
- finally got a proper domain and dealth with all the networking problems introduced by the new ISP! You're now being served from kahnews.net and not a cjb.net subdomain. Thanks to cjb.net for providing me with a free subdomain for all these years, though (which still works just fine, mind you). I also have 100% control of the router and NAT now, meaning I can actually forward port 80. So no need to access the webserver on port 81 anymore! Yay! [April 19th 2006]
- installed the latest version of Zend Optimizer, which now has PHP 5.1 support. [January 16th 2006]
- upgraded to PHP 5.1.2. Still having issues with the new ISP (NextGenTel - a most unrecommendable ISP). [January 13th 2006]
- upgraded to MySQL 5.0.18. [December 31st 2005]
- upgraded to MySQL 5.0.17. [December 20th 2005]
- the webserver was unavailable for a while this week, because of a problem with the router my new ISP sent me. This has resolved itself now, it seems. The new connection should give slightly better performance, too. [December 7th 2005]
- upgraded to PHP 5.1.1. Looks like yet another post-release "oops"... [November 30th 2005]
- upgraded to PHP 5.1.0. Unfortunately Zend Optimizer hasn't been updated to support it yet. Zend and the PHP group obviously haven't quite gotten their release act together... [November 25th 2005]
- upgraded to MySQL 5.0.15. Nice to finally see 5.0 released! [October 29th 2005]
- upgraded to Apache 2.0.55. [October 15th 2005]
- disabled mod_python. I don't actually have any Python applications running anymore, so I don't need it. [October 12th 2005]
- compiled Apache locally, using the free Visual C++ 2003 Toolkit. I might write a guide on how to do that, as it is not as straightforward as one might think. This allows me to run several httpd's side-by-side to test unstable PHP versions without interfering with the production server. I suggest everyone who has the opportunity tests 5.1 to spot any reference-related problems, prior to it's release! [October 11th 2005]
- upgraded to PHP 5.0.5. Judging by php.internals, PHP 5.1 is being somewhat delayed. [September 6th 2005]
- yet more downtime! I forgot to write an entry about the downtime we had from July 20th to August 1st, thanks to my not-so-competent ISP. I hope this doesn't turn out to be a trend... [August 12th 2005]
- after the longest downtime in a very long time, the server's back. The downtime was due to the PSU literally blowing up. [June 23rd 2005]
- upgraded to Apache 2.0.54. [April 22nd 2005]
- upgraded to PHP 5.0.4. Also removed some faulty drivers which have been causing problems the last few months. [April 2nd 2005]
- upgraded to MySQL 4.1.10a. Also starting to recover from a serious illness which has kept me in bed for a week. [March 18th 2005]
- upgraded to Apache 2.0.53. [February 17th 2005]
- upgraded to MySQL 4.1.10. [Februrary 15th 2005]
- finished rewriting the page to comply with WCAG. I think I managed full triple-A compliance, but some of the third priority checkpoints could be interpreted differently. If you notice anything wrong, don't hesitate to tell me. As a part of the conversion, I made the page valid HTML 4.01 strict, instead of transitional, which it has been up until now. [February 7th 2005]
- working on making this page compatible with the W3C's WCAG standard. Because I misread it a bit, and that the rewrite is partial, this page might look somewhat messed up for a while. [February 1st 2005]
- moved most the styling on this page into CSS sheets. It should work better in any medium now, and be more compliant with accessibility standards. I'll be adding a few alternate styles you can use if your browser supports it. [January 31st 2005]
- upgraded to MySQL 4.1.9. Happy new year BTW (and Christmas); forgot to post about that. [January 14th 2005]
- upgraded to MySQL 4.1.8. I seem to have forgotten to log the upgrade to 4.1. [December 19th 2004]
- upgraded to PHP 5.0.3 final. [December 15th 2004]
- upgraded to PHP 5.0.3 RC2. [December 11th 2004]
- upgraded to PHP 5.0.3 RC1. I've also made some other backend changes over the last few months which I didn't detail here. [December 1st 2004]
- server was down parts of the last week because of a power outage combined with me being on vacation. Sorry about that. The server also has a new IP, this one is not wrongfully listed in neither MAPS nor SORBS DUL (SPAM blacklists which don't list spammers or open relays, but rather people who don't have cool enough hostnames... No, they don't actually stop SPAM, they only serve to annoy honest people trying to send mail.) [October 26th 2004]
- upgraded to PHP 5.0.2. [September 25th 2004]
- upgraded to Apache 2.0.51. [September 18th 2004]
- following a security breach last Sunday, the server has been down until about 2AM today, Sep. 12th. The attackers were not able to complete their attack, however it has prompted me to revise all of my security setup to stop eventual attackers at an earlier stage if the server is attacked again. As a part of that, I have upgraded to Apache 2.0.50 and cleaned up in the HTTP root. If you find broken links, please mail me at the address on this page with the subject "broken links". Sorry for the downtime, but it was neccessary. [September 12th 2004]
- due to technical problems the server went down last week. Sorry about that. [August 17th 2004]
- upgraded to PHP 5.0.1. [August 16th 2004]
- installed Zend Optimizer again. Nice to have PHP 5 support in it. [July 25th 2004]
- upgraded to PHP 5.0.0 final! (Two days late because of inattention). It's thunderstorm season as well now, lost power twice this week... [July 15th 2004]
- after hardware issues which lead to some downtime a week ago and reduced performance this last week, things seem to be allright now. Sorry for the inconvenience. [July 5th 2004]
- upgraded to PHP 5.0.0RC3. [June 9th 2004]
- MySQL 4.0.20a for Win32 was released and I upgraded to it after struggling a bit to find an updated mirror. Thankfully I backed up my data first, as someone obviously packaged it a bit too quickly... The package included two seemingly identical builds, and it overwrote the core MySQL tables... [May 29th 2004]
- MySQL 4.0.20 was released today, but unfortunately there's no trace of a Win32 version, not even a source package :-( Hope to have it soon. [May 18th 2004]
- upgraded to Apache 1.3.31. Long time between 1.3.29, but very short between 1.3.30 and 1.3.31 ;-) [May 18th 2004]
- upgraded to PHP 5.0.0RC2. [April 28th 2004]
- upgraded to PHP 5.0.0RC1. Great to deploy PHP 5 again, this time everything is working smoothly, I only had to make a few config changes and disable the Zend Optimizer module. [March 19th-20th 2004]
- upgraded MySQL to version 4.0.18. After running the same old 3.x version for over a year, I decided it was time to catch up. [March 13th 2004]
- downgraded to PHP 4.3.4 (maybe temporarily). Had some problems with getting the new php4ts.dll to work properly, which I only noticed after I thought the install was succesful. [January 13th 2004]
- upgraded to PHP 4.3.5RC1. [January 13th 2004]
- I wish you a merry Christmas (delayed) and a very happy new year! [December 31st 2003]
- upgraded to Apache 1.3.29. [November 29th 2003]
- upgraded to PHP 4.3.4, a whole 19 days after release (I'm ashamed). [November 22nd 2003]
- the ISP change was successfull. Unfortunately, you may notice lesser performance now, as I've had to temporarily downgrade my bandwidth. [September 29th 2003]
- switching ISPs tomorrow, servers will be down for a while. [September 28th 2003]
- installed the free Zend Optimizer system. Maybe it'll make the server even faster, but I guess it might not make a big difference on a low load server like mine. Cool of Zend to provide it freely anyway, though. [April 28th 2003]
- finally got around to setting up the news-server. I now use INN, which should work a lot better than CASSANDRA. [March 9th 2003]
- downgraded PHP to 4.3.1 stable, as I'm fed up with the crashes on my array() calls. [February 25th 2003]
- I've finally moved all the stuff from the old server to the new server, but some stuff may not work right away, as I work on copying DB data, etc. [February 6th 2003]
- upgraded to PHP 5.0.0-dev (ZE2)! This makes us one of the first servers to use PHP5! [January 23rd 2003]
- upgraded PHP ZE2 to latest snapshot again, in an attempt to find a solution to a crash-problem I have with the PostNuke CMS. Ignore my request for help with mcrypt below, it doesn't compile anymore [January 5th 2003]
- upgraded to latest ZE2 snap, and I happily discovered that php_mcrypt now compiles. Unfortunately, due to naming issues I can't get it to find all the libmcrypt files. If you know how to install libmcrypt on win32 so that PHP will find it, mail me [December 27th 2002]
- upgraded PHP to the latest Zend Engine 2 snapshot, this time with PHP 4.4.0 (sounds like PHP 4.3 is nearing release)
- after maintenance on our lines this morning we hope recent downtime problems will be remedied. [December 3rd 2002 Happy holidays!]
- upgraded to Zend Engine v. 2.0.0-alpha3.[October 14th 2002]
- kahnews.cjb.net:80 is now running Apache 1.3.27 and PHP 4.4.0. [October 10th 2002]

There's lots of other stuff on the server too, maybe I'll add a more detailed index later. Thanks for visiting!
